The New Hampshire Pipes & Drums was originally formed in 2002 as the New Hampshire School of Scottish Arts Pipes & Drums by world renowned Pipe Major Gordon Webster, formerly Pipe Major of the 1st and 2nd battalions of the Scots Guards and Piper to HM Queen Elizabeth II, alongside professional piper and adjudicator, Lezlie Webster. The band was the natural development of the School's exceptional teaching programs in Scottish music and dance. For many years, the band has performed extensively alongside dance and fiddle students from the NHSSA to bring exciting performances of the traditional Scottish arts. Beginning in 2010, the band reformed under the broader and more-encompassing name, the New Hampshire Pipes & Drums, but the relationship between the band and the NHSSA is as strong as ever.
In 2018, the band became Grade 4 New England Champions at the New Hampshire Highland Games, under the direction of Pipe Major Campbell Webster. Today, the New Hampshire Pipes & Drums remains the premier pipe band of New Hampshire, despite the effect on the arts from COVID-19, thanks to our dedicated members. The band fields both a Grade 5 and a Grade 4 competition band, as well as a parade band. The band has a multi-generational and inclusive community of more than 25 pipers and 15 drummers of all skill levels, from Grade 5 to Professional, who attend weekly practices.
New and returning pipers and drummers are always welcome to stop by band practices on Thursdays at 6:30PM at St. Benedict Academy, 85 Third St., Manchester, NH. Piping instruction is available through featured instructors, Campbell and Lezlie Webster. Drumming instruction is available for free at practice every Thursday from drum instructor Ken MacLeod.
